Energy Series. Summer 2011. Washington, DC
Energy changes form before our eyes.It creates, enables, and fuels us and our environments. It is Nature’s balancing act, keeping the universe stable and unified. Much of energy’s potential lies in forms invisible to the human eye. Colors and forms mimic the transitory nature of time and energy. They are constantly evolving. Once the eye catches sight of something recognizable, they slowly dissolve to become part of another. Layers of vivid hue and organic shape suggest energy of human emotion through lively and forceful paint handling. -

MFA Thesis 2011: Eighteen Seconds (The Enchanted Trail)
I discovered a time capsule when cleaning out my grandmother’s plantation house in 2010. Stuffed in a drawer were two spools marked “bad film”. The 8mm Kodachrome home movie documented a vacation of family fun in Colorado. With the aid of digital technology, I have stopped time to paint my grandfather and father as they were filmed by my grandmother that day. Washes of grey watercolor mimic photographic realism but on closer inspection are an abstract amalgam of shape. -
