Paintings > MFA Thesis 2011: Eighteen Seconds (The Enchanted Trail)

I discovered a time capsule when cleaning out my grandmother’s plantation house in 2010. Stuffed in a drawer were two spools marked “bad film”. The 8mm Kodachrome home movie documented a vacation of family fun in Colorado. With the aid of digital technology, I have stopped time to paint my grandfather and father as they were filmed by my grandmother that day. Washes of grey watercolor mimic photographic realism but on closer inspection are an abstract amalgam of shape.
